Why this project?

After the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal in 2015, my family and I were caught off guard by the aftermath. In response, I designed this app to help people prepare for and find assistance during disasters.

Unfortunately, only a few apps and websites exist for his purpose but they are outdated and not user-friendly. The plan is to design this app and website experience so that it can provide comprehensive information and resources that could potentially save lives.

Problems and Solutions

Problems

Solutions

  • Information about earthqaukes and prevention methods are prevelent but apps and website rarely make use of these resouces.

  • Create a platform where all the necessay information is collected from these resouces and cite the sources.

  • Outdated interfaces are making the inforamtion hard to access and harder to proccess.

  • Make the platform more user-friendly and easily accessible.

  • There are only a few organizations that provide preventive and care services and even fewer ways to contact them.

  • Have the platform integrated with features from other organizations such as:The Red Cross, Google Maps, and UNICEF.

User Research

I used quantitative and qualitative analysis to gather data. For the quantitative method, I surveyed 12 people, and for the qualitative method, I interviewed 5 people who had been trying to search for information regarding earthquakes.

Low-Fidelity Prototype

I created low-fidelity prototypes for both mobile and desktop interfaces with the abilty to switch between dark and light modes.

High-Fidelity Prototype

The high-fidelity prototype was packed with improvemnets upon the data recieved after the usablity testing. I created various components and added some from designs systems such as Material Design.
